About FTGU
From The Ground Up is a family-owned Decatur Company that actually started in 1985 as a Christmas Tree Farm. We now focus on hardscape and construction services. Our team keeps up on all the latest products available to the industry and back that with trained and educated staff members to make sure the job gets done right the first time. Because we appreciate the support this community has given to us, we try to support the community as often as possible by donating to local charities and offering services or products where needed in the Decatur area.

My wife Kimberley owns TOURNESOL on Merchant street in downtown Decatur. I moved to Decatur in 1979 after graduating college and started working for the Soil and Water Conservation District. In 1985, I started From The Ground Up Landscapes. As Co-Owner with my son Ryan, I have enjoyed every moment of my journey to running a successful landscape company here in Decatur, Illinois. I owe my success and continued enjoyment to my Christian values that I hold dear to my heart. I have a passion for working with homeowners to design and install a new landscape or outside living area for their home. We look forward to making your landscape project an enjoyable experience.
Kevin McSherry
Hardscape specialists Co-Owner
I graduated from MacArthur High School class of 99' in Decatur, IL. I went to UBI bicycle technical institute in Ashland, OR to learn to be a bicycle mechanic. I also learned to design & TIG weld titanium bicycle frames. After that, I lived in Indian Hills in the front range of the Colorado mountains. I was either riding, hiking, camping, snowboarding or working at a bike shop as mechanic down in Denver. In 2003, I moved back, joined the family business and started a family of my own. I married my wife Courtney in 2005 and we have two daughters Ava & Aspen that keep me busy when I am not working. We enjoy being outside, taking trips to the mountains or going to the beach. Since I was in high school my father Kevin has been teaching me everything there is to know about running a landscape business. I have been trained in many areas of the industry and I am an ICPI Member/certified for paver installs. This certification requires continuing education to stay up on all the latest technologies for these areas. I have also obtained a Kitchler Lighting certificate for installs, Rainxchange Rainwater Harvesting installer, and Belgard Authorized Contractor. My passions today are working in the field next to my guys to get the jobs done fast and effectively.
